Square evidence overview

Square disputes require evidence submitted through the Square Dashboard. Unlike some other platforms, Square does not auto-collect evidence from your transactions. You are responsible for gathering and uploading all documentation within the response window.

Card-present advantages

If the transaction was processed with the card physically present and chip-read, this is powerful evidence against fraud claims. Document the entry method shown in your Square transaction details. Chip and contactless transactions have stronger authentication than manual entry or swipe.

Card-not-present evidence

For online or keyed transactions, you need additional evidence to prove the cardholder authorized the purchase. Gather IP address logs, customer account verification, delivery confirmation, and any communication confirming the order.

Service business evidence

If you provide services rather than physical products, document service completion with before/after photos, signed service agreements, customer approval communications, and any reviews or ratings left after the service was completed.
